Setup X-POS to work with large amount of products
Posted by Anh Le Quoc on 23 October 2014 04:23 PM

To accomodate handling products and customer quickly, the X-POS uses localStorage, also called jStorage, to store data locally in the browser of the X-POS user. But the localStorage is default limited to 5 MB in Chrome and Firefox, and can therefore in some cases become a limitation with large product or customer sets, or if names or search field input has longer than normal length (it will usually occur if the product set is larger than 10,000 products).

This problem will show itself by not letting you save all data in the X-POS interface.

The issue can be circumvented in Firefox, which allow you to change the limitation of the jStorage. It can be done following these steps:

  • In Firefox browse pane type: "about:config" and click enter
  • Confirm the prompt "I'll be careful, I promise!", and you will be redirected to the config page of Firefox
  • Search the line "dom.storage.default_quota", double click on its value (default value is 5120)
  • Give it a higher value that suits your dataset (for example 10000 - which would give you around 10 MB of jStorage)

After that your jStorage can store more data and X-POS can load all products and customers.
